Want to play with Oracle’s Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBI:EE)? Don’t want to take the time to install and configure it for demos, training or proof of concepts? You’ve come to the right place!
The BIC2G:EE has the OBI:EE suite already installed and configured with an entire Oracle Database and Application Server in a VMware image. What does this mean?
Just as an .XLS file is a portable way of moving spreadsheets between PCs running Excel, the BIC2G:EE VMware image is a portable way of moving an entire preconfigured virtual computer between PCs running VMware:
· A one-time installation of a VMware product (such as the free VMware Player or free VMware Server) on most any x86 Intel/AMD hardware is required.
· Then, you just point the VMware application to the BIC2G:EE files.
· When you start the image, you’ll see a Red Hat 4 Linux server will boot up inside a normal window.
· When finished booting, it’ll announce how to connect to it via your normal browser.
· Minimize this Linux console window.
· A few Internet browser clicks later, you’ll be running a full featured version of Oracle’s Business Intelligence: Enterprise Edition Suite from the comfort of your own PC!

The BIC2G:EE Server is pre-configured with SEVERAL demonstrations, showing off the flexibility and value of the Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition Suite. Some demos originated from Oracle’s product managers and show off the features of their respective products. Others come from Partners and show off the value they add to Oracle’s products. Here are just some of the demonstrations available with the BIC2G:EE:

The BIC2G:EE is an ideal Training Environment, as it is always ‘works’ and is EASILY replicated. Since BIC2G:EE can be run in a hosted environment, student hardware pre-requisites are minimal. For end user training, only a browser is needed. For administrator, a simple client install is required. (To keep it simple, all the compatible Windows client software is included with the BIC2G:EE DVD kit).
Available training varies by location. For example, in North America, Oracle’s Partners are able to take a free two-day hands-on class. During this class, they learn about the OBI:EE product with labs run on the BIC2G:EE. At the end of the class, each attendee gets their own BIC2G:EE DVDs. The BIC2G:EE is ideal for Proof of Concepts. The software licensed under the OTN License Agreement and completely unlocked with all the passwords provided. The BIC2G:EE can easily be configured to run on directly on your network, so it can DIRECTLY access data sources without necessarily using data dumps and loads.
For example, say you are trying to pursuade an external or internal customer of your prowess at being able to improve their business intelligence. Why not demonstrate this by SHOWING THEM THEIR OWN DATA through the eyes of the OBI:EE suite? Just run BIC2G:EE image on a machine connected to the customer’s network. With simply read-only access to their data source, you can quickly access their data. The resulting dashboards and reports you create can be accessed from ANYWHERE on their network, including the decision maker’s office on their own PC! If you can’t do a network connection, there’s a full Oracle Enterprise Edition Database built into the BIC2G:EE, so you’ll be able to run a super stand-alone POC by simply importing their data.
In this case, you can think of yourself as an optometrist helping a customer try out a great pair of eyeglasses. If they see their business more clearly through the eyes of OBI:EE on the BIC2G:EE, you’ll get the project!
